ASU's Gerald Munns Named Pacific-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week

TEMPE, Ariz.--Arizona State University junior linebacker Gerald Munns has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the Pac-10 office announced today.

A historic defensive performance led the Arizona State football team to a 34-9 victory over UCLA on Friday at Sun Devil Stadium. It was the third straight win for ASU, who is now 5-6, 4-4 in the Pac-10, on the season.
The Sun Devil defense tied an NCAA record by scoring four touchdowns against the Bruins, returning three interceptions and one fumble.
"I've never seen anything like it in my many years of coaching," head coach Dennis Erickson said. "I've never seen four touchdowns scored on defense and such total control of the game. It's unbelievable."

A dominating defensive effort lifted the Arizona State football team to a 31-0 victory over Washington State in Saturday's Homecoming game. The win is the second straight for the Sun Devils, and it improves them to 4-6, 3-4 in the Pac-10, on the season.
ASU's defense allowed just 130 yards of offense in the team's first shutout since a 1996 victory over No. 1 Nebraska.
"It was an unbelievable defensive effort," head coach Dennis Erickson said. "Anytime you shut out anybody, it's special. The defense played great all day."
The defense also forced two Washington State turnovers, as Mike Nixon had his team-leading fourth interception and freshman Lawrence Guy recovered a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. It marked the third straight game ASU scored a defensive touchdown.
Craig Bray begins his first season with the Sun Devil football program and his 33rd overall in the profession. Bray is reunited with head coach Dennis Erickson, and will serve as the Defensive Coordinator and linebackers coach at Arizona State. Bray coached under Erickson as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at Oregon State from 2000 to 2002, and also as the secondary coach at Washington State from 1987 to 1988. Bray comes to ASU after spending last season at Minnesota, coaching the defensive secondary for the Golden Gophers. He held the same position at Colorado from 2004 to 2005.
